Manhattan, New York, United States - Do Kwon's trial related to the collapse of his Terra crypto project has been postponed from January to February 2026. This delay was due to a conflict overlooked by Judge Paul Engelmayer, and neither side objected to the new date. The postponement may allow more time for a potential pro-crypto shift in the U.S. to influence the trial.
During the hearing, Judge Engelmayer inquired about a new pro-crypto memo from the Department of Justice. The memo, written by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, states that the Justice Department will no longer pursue actions that impose regulatory frameworks on digital assets. However, lead prosecutor Jared Lenow mentioned that the memo would not change the charges against Do Kwon.
Do Kwon faces charges of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering, with a potential 130-year prison term if convicted on all counts. The Securities and Exchange Commission previously won its case against Terraform Labs and Do Kwon, resulting in a Rp 65.78 ribu ($4) billion penalty. The next conference is scheduled for June, giving both sides more time to discuss the case.
